Chipset maker SiS has licensed Intel's 1333MHz frontside bus technology, allowing it not only offer product that supports the higher bus speed but also to support the chip giant's Core 2 Quad four-core processor.
SiS didn't say how long its licence lasts but claimed it was a "long-term" deal. Its announcement came on the same day Intel said its next-but-one generation of processor architecture, 'Nehalem', will drop its current frontside bus technology in favour of a serial, point-to-point interconnect.
Intel's 1333MHz FSB Core 2 Quads are due to appear in Q3. SiS didn't say when chipsets supporting those processors will become available.
