Sony's Rolly mobile music player rolls into Britain

Sony’s egg-shaped futuristic self-propelling portable music player will finally roll into UK shops next month, just over one year after it first cracked its way into the gadget scene.

The firm’s UK sales website now carries the message that Blighty’s consumers can pre-order the palm-shaped device for delivery in October.

For anyone that missed Rolly’s initial launch last September, it's an MP3 player that’s able to twist and spin in time with the music, thanks to a pair of rubberised wheels at either end.

Small 'ear' flaps unfold from each end of Rolly when you turn it on, to reveal the unit's speakers. Funky coloured lights also flash in time with tracks.

When the Japanese version was launched last year, model number SEP-10BT only had 1GB of storage. However, the British model sports a meatier, 2GB memory.

Rolly also supports Bluetooth audio streaming and is compatible with a range of audio formats, including MP3 and Sony’s own Atrac.

Rolly can be pre-ordered online for £249 (€307/$450).
