Q&A It just read your review of the Acer Aspire One. I've had one for a week or so and find that I can't load up windows files (*.EXE), which is a bit of a blow as I wanted to be able to do basic Autocad drawings. Is there an easy way to get it to run windows files?

I was looking at the current Neo Free Runner as possibly my next phone as on paper it seems to have a lot of great features at a pretty good price - for a SIM-free handset.

What is the current record for the number of transistors on a chip? Any sort: processor, graphics, memory, etc. Just wondering exactly how many hundreds of millions - or probably billions - the industry has actually achieved.

I'm in the market for a new notebook hard drive. Replacing the old one is easy enough, but here's a thought: I've seen drives that offer 120GB and others that offer 160GB, yet both have one platter and two read/write heads. So, are they identical?

I've installed Mandriva One 2008 Spring onto an Eee PC 900 using the installer on the Live CD. I did this in the office and it works reasonably well. At home, it's another matter however.

I have recently purchased myself a shiny new Dell XPS M1330 laptop. One of the options when I was configuring the machine was to include a Wireless Broadband card which was tied to Vodafone, but I already have a USB modem and contract with 3.

I've just bought a Compaq laptop running Vista and am (failing) to migrate from my old Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop running XP Home! I bought a Techguys USB 2.0 Easy Transfer Cable for Windows Vista to make the task simple.

Calling Register Hardware readers. What do you think of Apple's Time Capsule? I'm after for a network-connected HD, and this seems the best option - good router, integrated drive, only one power cable.

My old Althlon XP 3200+ and GeForce 680 GT are beginning to struggle a bit - understandable, they're dinosaurs by today's standards. I want to build a new machine, mainly for gaming. But - big but - here's a list of rules: NO SLI/Crossfire and NO serious overclocking. I was thinking an E8400, 2GB DDR 2 - or DDR 3, if there's a reason - 8800GT/GTS 512, Win XP.

There is an interesting product to allow PC users to listen to/rip audio cassettes - the Ion Tape2PC USB cassette deck - so our dodgy 1980s collections can be saved to MP3 or similar before being consigned to the bin. Does anyone know of a similar product that can be used for VHS?
